On 7 February 2022, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced full reopening of Australian borders from 21 February 2022, allowing all international visitors holding valid visas to enter Australia.
On 20 March 2020, Australia implemented a hard border closure policy and banned all non-citizen and non-Permanent Resident visa holders from entering Australia. Since then, entry to Australia has required an exemption, but very few applicants were fully eligible. Many families and Australian citizens were rendered unable to meet with overseas relatives for over 2 years.
Australia gradually reopened a little in 2021, firstly allowing Business Innovation and Investment Visa holders, immediate family members of Australian citizens and Permanent Residents, then from November 2021, student and work visa holders were also allowed to enter Australia. Now, in 2 weeks’ time, all double vaccinated visa holders will be welcome to travel to Australia.
